2021-22 SEASON OVERVIEW

As we launch our 2021-2022 season, we are thrilled to be able to perform together in person after such a long time apart. In many ways, we as an organization—and all of us as individuals and as a society—have been transformed by the colossal challenges and opportunities for growth we’ve encountered in the past year.

We begin our season with our very own Trent Johnson, organist and composer, who will be performing some of his original compositions for organ and will be improvising over a classic silent film. Our second concert presents works that challenge us to reflect on the oppression the Black community has endured and continues to endure. During a discussion immediately following the concert we will have an opportunity to talk about some of these challenges and the work that lies ahead. Nature and ecology are the focus of our third concert. The performance will feature a newly composed work by Gilda Lyons specially written for the occasion. The final concert of our season is of particular significance for us. We were scheduled to perform Rachmaninoff’s All-Night Vigil before the pandemic shook the world. We are fortunate to have the opportunity to finally perform this magnificent work alongside Rachmaninoff’s thrilling and valedictory Symphonic Dances.
